About my therapy approach & support

In supporting the clients I am honored to work with, I value and create a safe, nurturing, non-judgmental and empathic environment for individuals and couples to explore underlying issues related to sexual addiction, pornography addiction, betrayal trauma, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and substance abuse.

As life inevitably presents us with transitions, loss and unexpected challenges, these experiences become an integral part of what motivates us to make changes to live our best lives and relationships - lives free from secrecy, shame, guilt, anger, and hurt. I am here as a support if you are ready to step onto a path of healing and moving forward.

My approach will be tailored to your specific needs, to help you open up and see things from a different perspective. These include EMDR, mindfulness, psychodynamic psychology, family systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), I am interactive, and solution focused. I nurture a collaborative and creative process of therapy to aid in your brave journey towards healing, self-awareness, serenity, and transforming your life and relationships. I will walk the path with you every step of the way.

About my background

Here is information about who I am, I look forward to getting to know you…

I grew up on the beaches of Southern California and still make my home on the coast. I am a graduate of Pepperdine University with a master’s in clinical psychology, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Washington State. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and I am trained in EMDR, and trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and am Certified in First Responder Therapy, and trained in Grief Response Therapy. My clinical experience that spans over 20 years includes my role as a therapist, clinical supervisor and director, while working with a diverse variety of individuals and couples.

I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, helping individuals, groups, couples, and veterans to address various addictions, complex trauma, sex addiction, betrayal trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic mental health issues, and co-occurring disorders.

From the time I was young I have wanted to have a positive impact in people’s lives and to help hurting people heal. Part of this motivation is due to my own life experiences, and, as a result, I am passionate about helping to guide others through their own life challenges by providing support and encouragement along the way.

Finally, I am an advocate for animal rescue, and love my time with my current rescue Zoey, a beloved Maltese mix. When I am not working, I enjoy being active outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. My favorite place to be? At the beach with a good book!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know a bit about me, my clinical experience, and the work that I am passionate about. I look forward to hearing from you, and welcome your call 310-205-8400 or email Karen@SerenityPathCounselingServices.com.
